GENBAND Ranks No. 1 on Wall Street Journal List of Top 50 Venture Backed Companies

FRISCO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GENBAND, a leading developer of Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure and application solutions, today announced that it has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal in its third annual ranking of the top 50 U.S. companies backed by venture capitalists – ranking number one overall.

“We are thrilled and privileged to be recognized by the Wall Street Journal for GENBAND’s vision, strategy and execution that have steered our company’s growth over the past eight years,” said Charlie Vogt, President and CEO of GENBAND. “While many companies were simply trying to ride out recent and historic economic challenges, our bold moves enabled us to experience unprecedented growth from a modest start-up in 2004 into a global market share leader and integral partner to more than 600 service providers around the world today. Fixed and mobile operators as well as enterprises around the world are commencing an industry-wide network transformation where GENBAND is playing a key role in providing essential solutions and services."

Over the past eight years, Mr. Vogt’s strategic vision has steered the company from a single product to a global market share leader, representing a comprehensive portfolio of IP switching, networking and application solutions. GENBAND’s investments have placed it at the center of the world’s migration to all IP networks of the future, while also securing itself as the engine behind many of the largest communications networks in the world. Today, the company’s vision is focused on empowering the Connected Age through IP innovation.

To be eligible for the ranking – compiled by research firm VentureSource, which like the Wall Street Journal is owned by News Corp. – companies must have been based in the U.S., have received an equity round of financing in the past three years and be valued at less than $1 billion, as the aim is to identify lesser-known start-ups. More than 5,900 candidates were considered.

Key criteria for ranked companies on the list include fundraising success, recent growth in the company’s value and the track record of its management. The editorial staff of Dow Jones VentureWire also reviewed and ranked the start-ups based on their knowledge of the companies’ products, competition and financial performance.
