Dasha Zhukova, girlfriend of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, gave birth last week to a baby girl in New York, according to people close to the family.

The birth of Leah Lou, born April 8 at New York Presbyterian, helps explain why Abramovich has kept his megayacht docked off the West Side of Manhattan for the past month and a half. The yacht, called Eclipse, at 536 feet, has attracted hundreds of gawkers every day since it first docked next to the jogging and biking trails along the Hudson River.

While Abramovich was mum on the reason for the boat's stay,CNBC reported that the boat could be a temporary residence for Abramovich and Zhukova while she was having her baby at a New York hospital. Roman Abramovich doesn't own an apartment in New York City.

Leah Lou will be an American citizen since she was born in New York. However, she would have had dual U.S. citizenship regardless of where she was born, since Zhukova is a U.S. citizen.

It's unclear whether the Abramoviches are still in New York. But as of today, Eclipse is still at its dock in Midtown.
